i-Activ AWD® provides functionality beyond that of a typical 4WD or AWD system. Unlike basic AWD systems that react to traction loss, i-Activ AWD is always engaged and proactively monitors vehicle dynamics data in real time to watch for variations in wheel loads that a driver may not notice. The system then automatically controls the distribution of torque to provide predictable handling when driving on unpaved roads or adverse driving conditions.12
All other Mazda3 Sedan models have Front Wheel Drive (FWD) drivetrains to provide predictable handling and good fuel economy in most normal driving conditions.13
