TYPES OF DATA COLLECTED AND TRANSMITTED
Default Data We Automatically Collect and When
All of our Connected Vehicles contain an in-vehicle Telematics Control Unit (“TCU”) (sometimes also called a Data Communications Module or “DCM”), which is activated on or before the Connected Vehicle’s delivery to a Mazda Dealer and starts the automatic collection and transmission of Default Data from the Connected Vehicle. The Default Data is generated within the Connected Vehicle and automatically collected by either the TCU or other in-vehicle system (excluding the Electronic Data Recorder (EDR)). Default Data is transmitted to us remotely via the TCU only at turning off your Connected Vehicle (“Ignition Off”) or automatically based on certain events as described below.
“Default Data”* means the following and is used for:
- Your Vehicle Identification Number (“VIN”) and telematics flags are transmitted to Mazda at each Ignition Off to tell Mazda whether the vehicle TCU is enabled and capable of being communicated with for over-the-air updates, emergency calling, and enrolling in Connected Services;
- Your vehicle will also transmit equipment part numbers and software and hardware identification and version information to Mazda if this information changes after you take possession of the vehicle (e.g. a defective part is replaced).
* 2026 CX-5 and future CX-5 Connected Vehicles also have an Intrusion Detection System that collects software-related, security monitoring data (including Geo-location Data) locally in your vehicle. After subscription in Connected Services, all such collected logs, if any, are transmitted to Mazda solely for managing cyber security of Connected Vehicles.
“Geo-location Data” means your Connected Vehicle’s latitude and longitude coordinates at each Ignition Off.
Prior to February 26, 2023, Default Data also included:
- “Driving Data”: driving behavior data, which includes the acceleration and speed at which your Connected Vehicle is driven and use of the steering and braking functions in your Connected Vehicle (Driving Data was collected for each driving trip and transmitted at each Ignition Off); and
- “Vehicle Health Data”: includes Vehicle Identification Number (VIN); odometer, fuel level, and oil life readings; Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs); and data from the Connected Vehicle’s OBD system (“OBD Data”). OBD Data includes, but is not limited to, engine coolant temperature, fuel injection volume, engine Rotation Per Minute (RPM), and the status of doors, hood, trunk, and hazard lights (Vehicle Health Data was transmitted at each Ignition-Off).
- “Geo-location Data”: Only Model Year 2019 – 2021 Mazda3 and Model Year 2020 – 2021 CX-30 vehicles.
Connected Services Data We Automatically Collect and When
Mazda Connected Services is an optional, subscription-based feature available on Connected Vehicles that relies on Connected Services Data to give you additional convenience features. Connected Services Data collection and transmission begins upon your enrollment for subscription to Mazda Connected Services. - Driving Data and Vehicle Health Data for Safety & Convenience: Driving Data and Vehicle Health Data provides you with the real-time status information of your Connected Vehicle, including the status of doors, hood, trunk, and hazard lights. You can remotely view the real-time status of your Connected Vehicle at any time using the MyMazda App.

Please refer to the Connected Services page for a summary of Default Data and Connected Services Data collection based on your model vehicle.
*Emergency & Safety Services
Connected Services offerings may include enhanced emergency and safety services. To receive the benefit of these services, you or we may also need to use and share additional Personal Information and geo-location of the vehicle for assistance. For example, for Private eCall services, if your vehicle detects a material collision, the airbag is deployed, or the SOS button is pressed, the vehicle will automatically transmit VIN, Geo-location Data, and certain vehicle collision data to the Private eCall center to assist you. You may also need to share directly with the emergency operator Personal Information which may include medical information about yourself or others in an accident or emergency situation or additional location information. Similarly, if you request Stolen Vehicle Assistance, the agent responding to your call may ask for details about the incident, which could include Personal Information. YOUR CHOICES
Managing Your Personal Information
At any time, you can log in to your MyMazda App to review, correct, revise, or update any of your Personal Information that you have provided in the MyMazda App. At any time, you can also log in to the MyMazda App to cancel your subscription in its entirety as more fully described below.

Data Communications In-Vehicle Toggle
In your Connected Vehicle’s Infotainment System there is a Data Communications toggle. You can temporarily disable transmission of Connected Services Data used to provide Connected Services (except for Private eCall which is an emergency service and Over the Air (“OTA”) updates which may be used to address vehicle issues or recalls, where applicable). This means that during the time this toggle is “Off”, the Connected Services in the MyMazda App will not be functional and transmission of the current Geo-Location Data for that Connected Vehicle will be temporarily disabled for access in the MyMazda App. While the toggle is “Off” the vehicle collects and stores certain data without transmitting. If you later toggle “On”, Data that was collected while toggled off will be transmitted to Mazda, however only the most current Connected Services Data including last vehicle Geo-Location Data will be accessible via the MyMazda App.
Connected Services Data for these features is not transmitted when Data Communication toggle is off:
- MyMazda app features (OTP for enrollment; Remote Controls; Guest Driver Monitor & Geofence; Find My Car; Send to Car; Vehicle Info); Wi-Fi tethering; In-car Wi-Fi; Data for Remote Controls; Quality Data/Vehicle Status Data (see Conditional data collection notes); In-Car Recall Notification
The following features will still work while Data Communication toggle is off:
- Over-the-Air Updates (OTA); SiriusXM; Private eCall; Stolen Vehicle Assistance (SVA); Mazda e911 Bluetooth Calling; offline versions of features with Google built-in
NOTE: If you want to fully deactivate Connected Services, please follow the instructions below to disable our collection of all Connected Services Data or Default Data.

You can cancel your Subscription to Mazda Connected Services at any time to disable collection of Connected Services Data by following the step-by-step instructions in the CANCELLATION OF MAZDA CONNECTED SERVICES section of the Connectivity Terms & Conditions. THE SALE, TRANSFER, OR LEASE TERMINATION OF A CONNECTED VEHICLE WILL NOT DISABLE AUTOMATIC DATA COLLECTION.
CANCELLING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WILL STOP YOUR VEHICLE’S COLLECTION AND TRANSMISSION OF CONNECTED SERVICES DATA AND SOME VEHICLES WILL RETURN TO ONLY COLLECTING AND TRANSMITTING DEFAULT DATA AS DETAILED ON THE CONNECTED SERVICES PAGE.
DISABLING ALL DATA COLLECTION
REGARDLESS OF MODEL YEAR, YOU MAY COMPLETELY DE-ACTIVATE THE CONNECTIVITY TO YOUR VEHICLE BY CONTACTING OUR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AT 1-800-222-5500 AND ASKING THEM TO DEACTIVATE YOUR TCU. PLEASE NOTE THAT COMPLETE TCU DE-ACTIVATION WILL PREVENT YOU FROM RECEIVING ANY CONNECTIVITY TO THE VEHICLE AND PREVENT YOU FROM RECEIVING ANY SERVICES THAT REQUIRE CONNECTIVITY WITH THE VEHICLE INCLUDING MAZDA CONNECTED SERVICES, ANY EMERGENCY SERVICES THAT RELY ON VEHICLE CONNECTIVITY AND ANY OVER-THE-AIR SOFTWARE UPDATES AND RECALL NOTICES.
