FINDING BALANCE IN THE FOREST

Important Vehicle Information.2
Every Mazda strives for balance, creating a sense of oneness between car and driver. The Mazda CX-50 extends this approach to the outdoors—to place you, the vehicle and the terrain in perfect harmony.
In old growth forests, there is a harmonious balance that exists from the treetops to the ground, maintained in part by the fungal ecology at work in the ecosystem—which Dr. Korena Mafune studies with great enthusiasm.
Chef Melissa King and Korena travel through the dense fog of the Olympic Peninsula, to forage for mushrooms among trees up to 500 years old. Melissa appreciates these fungal discoveries because of their unique flavor—which offers umami. This savory quality acts as a dynamic balance between the other four essential tastes of sweet, sour, salty and bitter.
The Mazda CX-50 is purpose-built for excursions just like this—to encourage drivers to connect with nature and find their balance in the outdoors.

“THIS FOREST THAT WE'RE DRIVING THROUGH IS SO BEAUTIFUL...I LOVE THE SENSE OF BALANCE YOU GET AS A PERSON WHEN YOU ARE STANDING IN IT ALL... YOU CAN FEEL THE TREES BREATHING.”

DESIGN STARTS WITH THE DRIVER
In nature, balance keeps everything from mushrooms to ancient trees growing in harmony. In Mazda’s vehicle design, creating balance requires that designers and engineers consider how each component in our vehicles, including the most important one—the driver—work together to create a connected and harmonious driving experience.
