What are the differences between the Mazda CX-50 and CX-50 Hybrid?
The primary differences of the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid from 2.5 S and 2.5 Turbo models are its hybrid powertrain, which delivers up to 219 horsepower and an electronic AWD (e-AWD) system.
Mazda CX-50 Hybrid models also feature Hybrid specific badging, and slightly revised interior and exterior dimensions to accommodate the HEV battery pack.
In addition, Mazda CX-50 Hybrid Premium and Premium Plus models offer red leather-trimmed interior, while Premium Plus models have unique 19” alloy wheels.
How does the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid technology work?
The Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is a full hybrid (HEV) that combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a trio of electric motors. The vehicle primarily runs on gas power, but the electric motors can be used to propel the vehicle for short distances and at low speeds, it reduces engine idling and powers auxiliary systems. The rear motor is used to power the rear wheels when e-AWD is engaged. Electric power comes from an HEV battery pack which charges through regenerative braking and the gas engine.
